What to Expect After Acupuncture and Cupping?

How will I feel afterward?

Many patients experience what we like to refer to as “the AcuZone”, where you may feel a sense of euphoria, and tremendously relaxed. You might have a hard time focusing for a few minutes. All of those things are normal, we encourage you to get grounded by taking some deep full breaths, connecting with the ground, and drinking plenty of water. But most importantly, enjoy the relaxed stress-free feeling you get and embrace the positive feelings. You will notice less pain and an overall sense of well-being.

What should I do after treatment?

Directly after your treatment, you may experience thirst, so make sure to drink plenty of filtered room-temperature water. During treatment, toxins may have been released and you want to continue the detoxification process. Try to avoid cold beverages.

Although not always possible, we recommend staying away from stressful situations and long periods of screen time. Allow your body and mind to receive all of the benefits of being in a restored state.

Can I work out afterward?

Listen to your body! If you feel energized, use that energy for productive activities like gentle exercise. If you feel like you are so relaxed you could take a nap, lie down, and rest for a moment!

Avoid high-intensity exercise directly after treatment, as this can diminish the positive effects of treatment.

How long will the effects last?

Pain relief can last for a few hours to several days after your initial treatment. With continual treatments, you will notice that the pain levels will decrease over time and even be eliminated. Acupuncture is not a quick fix, the benefits accumulate with continual treatment. (Please see the treatment plan below)

It is common for people to have an excellent night of sleep after acupuncture, and sleep will continue to improve over time with consistent treatments.

What if I don’t feel good after treatment?

Though acupuncture promotes healing and relief, sometimes you may feel worse for a day before you feel better. This indicates that your body may be expelling pathogens in order to heal, or you are integrating the therapies received. In addition, previous ailments and old health issues may arise. Don’t worry, this is your body processing the changes, and you will be much better in time.

Another possible rare side effect of acupuncture is to be emotionally sensitive and experience unpleasant feelings that may have been stored in your body. This is normal and another part of the healing process. The emotions will soon pass, and you may experience more emotional stability after working through those feelings. Allow emotions to flow openly, and just be with what is.

Is there anything else I should know?

– Allow extra time to relax after acupuncture.

– Allow extra time for a nap or sleep.

– Sometimes, you may feel unusual emotions arising. This can be from the release of trapped emotions. Allow emotions to flow openly, and just be with what is.

– Increased elimination of toxins can occur through more urination and increased bowel movements. This is a good sign that your body is processing what it needs to get rid of.

– Drink plenty of purified water, and eat healthy food.

What should I avoid after being treated?

– Intense physical activities.

– Extremely hot temperatures like a sauna or steam room.

– Coffee, alcohol, and drugs.

– Ice packs, unless directed by your practitioner.

TREATMENT PLAN

You will feel better after one treatment, and it is important to remember that acupuncture and Chinese medicine are most effective with continual and consistent treatments. The closer together the treatments are, the more effective they become and the fewer treatments you will need to restore your health.

For example, you may only need 6 treatments if you come into the clinic twice per week, as opposed to needing 10 or more treatments if you come in only twice per month. This means healing in 3 weeks, as opposed to 5 months. Your healthcare provider at New Vibes will create a treatment plan customized to your specific needs in order to get the best possible outcome.

Once the symptoms of the initial health concern have been eliminated, it is important to address the root of the problem so it does not return. This is the corrective phase of the treatment plan and is best addressed by coming in for treatment 2-4 times per month.

After the underlying issues have been corrected, maintenance treatments or 1-2 times per month are recommended to maintain an optimal state of health and vitality. New Vibes offers membership programs that save you money and ensure that you receive the best treatment plan possible for what you need.
